This ground more or less deep marno-limestone is located in a zone frost-susceptible and to the dryness, swept by Mistral and Tramontana, sometimes so violent ones that they limit the height of training.
Vines:
- is out of goblet, stretched to allow the passage of the machine to be gathered the grapes,
- is trained in cord of short Royat.
Cereals:
durum wheat currently, also in organic farming, are there to make an attempt..., for maintenance of the grounds.

The exploitation was reorganized by my father, engineer Agri, after the freezing of 1956 which destroyed vines and olive-trees; the pieces were redrawn to allow current mechanization and the vines were replanted in major part with ameliorative type of vines: merlot, syrah, cabernet-sauvignon, grenache and, of course, carignan.
For a long time, we favour a reasoned culture and, if need be, we do not hesitate to call into question our mode of culture.
Our vines have received
no weeding for more than 15 years,
no artificial fertilisers since 5 to 6 years,
no chemical protection for 2 years
(chemistry of synthesis),
while supporting the vegetation, while
limiting to the maximum topping (just this it is necessary to let pass the tractor) and ploughings frequent to hide green manure.

The exploitation is located at the center of a small depression, the Plain of Bannières. It is filled by gravelly limestone colluviums biodetritic of higher Valanginien, with sometimes yellow marl and sandy red marl alternation.
This center, or Dome of Castries, is a principal structure anticlinal of the area, which was worth to it to be explored
# access in 1962 by tanker ESSO-REP to - 4.445 m (Castries 1, BRGM-BSS991-1-1),
# then in 1978 by GDF which had planned to create there an underground storage of gas (project given up because a structure of intense fracturing).
In outcrop, one finds limestones and marno-limestones of the lower Cretaceous.

The farm.

In Western edge, one finds an emergence principal, Boulidou de Bannières, located on a fault N.O-S.E, marked out tectonic breaches limestones and marno-limestones, fault which is prolonged in North in the basin of the LEZ (aquiferous karstic of lower Valanginien, sits of important circulations of water, in relation to deep limestones Jurassic) whose resurgence constitutes the supply drinking water of Montpellier.
The geological situation.

As one can note it on the various photographs, we maintain edges ditches and ways and we preserve the hedges and the coppices, first to preserve the flora present: rosemary, thyme, bramble, mauve, glaïeul, chèvrefeuille, cistus, lavender, tree of Judaea, micocoulier, pines and holm oaks or of course kermes..., but especially so that the fauna and the predatory natural ones of the parasites of the vine can nourish and take refuge there.
That replaces the insecticidal applications!

AIt is so marvellous to see a full nest in the
heartof a stock of grenache, or to be made attack by one flopée of cicadas when ' one disturbs them while passing in the medium of the stocks...
